Cast for Up the Down Staircase

PLEASE READ!!!!

Casting shows is always a difficult heartache, and this play was no exception.  Let me reiterate, casting this show was HARD.  60 students auditioned, which is more people than many schools get for their musicals.  I am truly blessed to have so much student support and talent, and yet it is a curse when I have to cut so many talented, hard working people.  Let me reiterate, I had to cut TALENTED, HARD WORKING PEOPLE.

If you were cast, congratulations!  The first rehearsal is on Monday, September 12th from 3:30-4:30PM in the Studio Theater (high school room 4201).  I will be handing out scripts and packets, and cast members will have their pictures taken.  If for any reason you cannot attend this first rehearsal, please e-mail me at rebecca.rhinehart@bexleyschools.org as soon as possible so I know you accept your role and can arrange to get you all your materials.  The rehearsal calendar and scene breakdown will be available on Sakai shortly, as well as the cast packet with all the forms you need.

If you were not cast, please don’t be hard on yourself.  I cannot even count the number of times I have been cut from a show, but it has hurt every time and I know it’s hard not to take it personally.  Casting is a giant puzzle, and sometimes not all the pieces fit.  Casting was done based on who could do each part well, work well with students in other parts, and also on after school availability.  Because of such a large turnout, half of the people who auditioned couldn’t be cast.  I’d love to have you on crew!  Crew meets Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:30.  Just attend crew interviews on Thursday, September 8th from 3:30-4:30PM in the Studio Theater (high school room 4201) to sign up.  You are a valuable member of the theatre department, and the worst thing that can happen would be to make this your last theatre experience.

There are many other opportunities to be involved in theatre at Bexley as well.  This year there will be a one act in April to take to State Junior Thespian Conference as well as the ever popular winter musical, Once Upon a Mattress.  Plus there are a ton of field trips and events such as the ice cream social and Renaissance Festival.  Please e-mail me if you need details.
